 Team Profile

Orthodontics Sydney Wide is a large, well-respected orthodontic practice which has been in existence for almost 50 years.  To become a specialist orthodontist we first must study at university to become a dentist. We are then required to go back to university for a number of years and obtain a higher degree (Master of Dental Science) in the speciality of orthodontics. This then allows us to be given specialist registration.

Our first surgery was set up in Parramatta in the mid-60s.  There are currently 6 orthodontists working in the practice all of whom are specialist orthodontists with post-graduate degrees in orthodontics and registered as specialist orthodontists with the Dental Board of Australia. They are also members of the Australian Society of Orthodontics. As well as the higher degree, all the orthodontists in our practice have a combined experience of over 80 years.

Dr. Peter Synnott

Dr. Peter Synnott

I have been a Specialist Orthodontist for 20 years now, and have been a member of this practice for all of that time. I always feel very fortunate to have found a job I enjoy so much. Born in Sydney, I completed my last three years of high school in NZ and then trained there as a dentist. I then worked at Auckland Hospital for one year as a House Surgeon. After returning to Sydney I had my own private practice for a few years before commencing my full time 3 year specialty training in orthodontics at Sydney University. I work at our Hurstville practice 3 days each week and at our Parramatta practice on Fridays. I am also a Senior Visiting Specialist in Orthodontics at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. This role often involves providing specialist treatment for patients with a wide variety of developmental problems. I have also been involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate orthodontic tutoring with Sydney University. Professionally, I am presently on the Executive of the Sydney University Orthodontic Alumni and have held Executive posts with the NSW Branch of the Australian Society of Orthodontists. My interests involve spending as much time as possible with my wife and children, all of whom fortunately share a good sense of humour.
